With the SAP ERP system, which was completed in 18 months, the bank consolidated its legacy systems and databases, while reducing cycle time with electronic approval of projects. "For us at the World Bank, the SAP implementation was a very mighty deal," Muhsin said in a SAP advice release.

The SAP ERP project only represented section of the bank's I.T., process and communications overhaul. "We used SAP for entire business transactions and brought in Oracle for databases," says Ronald Kim, information officer for the World Bank Institute (WBI). The WBI serves as the bank's capacity evolution arm, helping countries partake and apply global and local information to meet evolution challenges.

Specifically, Oracle is being used as the foundation for the bank's Record Integrated Information System. This is the repository for entire of the bank's official records, reports, e-mails, and audio and video.     Struts Portlets with AJAXThough AJAX isn't the prerogative solution for every Web application, there's increasing curiosity and enthusiasm among organizations to explore its benefits and see how it works for their applications. AJAX isn't new, but it's entire on the client side and making it drudgery with different server-side frameworks is a challenge. This article is a result of my client undergo in developing Struts portlet applications with AJAX. In the sections above I briefly described Struts and AJAX. In the sections below I'll picture some of the challenges faced during implementation. To develop AJAX applications there are several toolkits such as Google Web Toolkit (GWT), DOJO, AJAX Faces, and JSON, but for simplicity's sake they chose a modest vanilla implementation.
