I’m pretty certain many DB2 users will voice that this presentation of the execution purpose is confusing. And that’s OK. If you are used to the pass IBM presents execution plans, just stick to what you are used to. Oh, that’s a much disappointment: the optimizer didn’t occupy the index. It does a complete table scan instead. What’s wrong?

I haven’t checked any other ways to emulate partial indexes in DB2 (e.g., using partitions affection in more recent Oracle versions).
As always: just because you can conclude something doesn’t denote you should. This approach is so ugly—even more monstrous than the Oracle workaround—that you must desperately necessity a partial index to warrant this maintenance nightmare.
